Body Donation Registration and Procedures

While the Donor is Alive:

  1. The donor is encouraged to have open and thoughtful discussions with their family about their wish to donate, and to obtain their support.
  2. Registration can be completed online via the Silent Teacher website, or by calling the Faculty hotline at 3943 6050 to request an information leaflet and paper registration form.
  3. Within approximately three months of registration, the Faculty of Medicine will mail the donor a confirmation letter and a Body Donation Card.

After the Donor’s Passing:

  1. When the donor passes away, the family should inform hospital staff that the deceased had registered for body donation or had clearly expressed this wish.
  2. Family members or close friends should contact CUHK during office hours to begin the donation arrangement process.
  3. The necessary documents must be completed at the hospital’s Death Documentation Office (DDO) and faxed to CUHK at 3942 0956.
  4. CUHK staff will then confirm whether the donation can proceed and discuss the transportation and logistical arrangements with the family.

After Educational Use Has Concluded:

  1. The Programme staff will notify the family to either contact a funeral service provider or authorize CUHK to assist with cremation arrangements.
  2. Once the cremation has taken place, the family may either manage the ashes themselves or request CUHK’s assistance to arrange for ashes to be scattered in the Silent Teacher Memorial Garden at the Junk Bay Chinese Permanent Cemetery.
